How to use the walking guides

A great circular walk in the high mountains

Description:

From the parking head south the west on the main path, it heads towards Le Meije providing stunning views.  Follow this high balcon path, as it turns south again it crosses some big erosion scars on the side of the mountain, keep going south  until you pass close to a refuge, a great place to stop for a drink. Stay on the GR54 as it heads southeast towards the col D’Arsine.  At the col you can chose to do a short walk up to the lac de glacier Arsine, there’s a single path there and back.

From the col continue on the GR54 east, as you descend you come across some stunning lakes and views.  Towards the end of the valley a steep down path leads down to the lac de la Douche, cross the bridge and continue down now in the trees until you reach the village of la Casset where you will find some nice cafes and bars.

For me the best option is to use two cars and finish at laCasset, if this isn’t possible then there is a foot path that leads north, to les Boussardes and then le Lauzet from there it follow the river Guisane and joins the GR50 to the col du Lautaret and the parking.  The distances etc. below are for finishing at La Casset and including going to the lac de glacier Arsine.
