Description

How to use the ski touring guides

A classic of the area. The Davin couloir is a big tick and one that should be on any keen couloir skiers to do list, it’s nearly 1000m up most of which is boot pack and gives you an amazing ski down if your legs still have the power.

Park at Le Casset (tight parking in the village), follow a ski du fond track west to the post du clot du gué. Then continue up the petit Tabuc valley, leave the path and cross over to the torrent du Glacier de Casset. Follow the bowl up the torrent as far as you can passing the petit Davin, at the end of the bowl you will see the couloir on your left. Climb the couloir, it just keeps going, as you near the top the line splits and you can climb left to the access the glacier, or climb right to stay on the classic line of the Davin. The last section is steep and in the rocks so care is needed, the top gives you amazing views down on to the Glacier du Casset.

Descent

Carefully ski down the steep summit slopes and back into the main couloir. Then descend it, there are a few islands of safety on the way down to wait for others and give your legs a rest. After the couloir,  follow your line back down, you can stay on the right hand back of the stream and join the path near the bridge, but it is a little tight in the trees.
